Hey hey! The Cubs came back to beat the Padres 3-2 at Wrigley on Monday behind a walk-off RBI single from Seiya Suzuki and a quality start from Shota Imanaga (6.1 IP, 2 ER)!

The North Siders had several missed scoring opportunities earlier in the game, leaving eleven on base and hitting 3-for-13 with runners in scoring position. But consecutive singles by Dansby Swanson, Pete Crow-Armstrong, and Alex Bregman started the Cubs' 9th.

After a head-scratching send of Swanson on a shallow fly ball to left that resulted in a easy double play for San Diego, Suzuki blasted one high into the ivy deep in the left field well to score PCA for the win!

The victory was the Cubs' 13th in their last 17th games. The series continues Tuesday at the federal landmark.

Cubs win! Cubs win! Cubs win! The Cubs came back to beat the Brewers 4-3 in 10 on Sunday behind a CLUTCH save from Jordan Wicks, 4.1 scoreless from Bryse Wilson, and two RBI from Seiya Suzuki!

Wicks entered the game with the bases loaded and nobody out in the 10th and picked up the save.

The North Siders return home to kick off a three-game set against the Padres Monday.

Hey hey! The Cubs beat the Mets 4-3 in 10 on Thursday to complete the series sweep! Matt Boyd had a nice start in his return from the IL (4.2 IP, 0 ER, 4 K), Pete Crow-Armstrong had the game-winning hit, a 10th inning RBI double, and Trent Thornton earned his first save! That makes it a sweep of the season series with the Mets!

 

Boyd didn't look particularly sharp, walking four, giving up four hits, and throwing just 46 of 76 pitches for strikes. But he was able to keep New York off the board while providing a much-needed boost to the North Siders' decimated pitching staff.

 

Also encouraging:  relievers Caleb Thielbar, Jacob Webb, and Thornton combined to throw three no-hit, scoreless innings to finish the ballgame.

 

The Men in Blue head to Milwaukee for a three-game weekend series before returning to the Friendly Confines next week for a six-game homestand against the Padres and Cardinals.

 

Thursday's game marked the halfway point of the 2026 season:  81 games down, 81 games to go. The Cubs find themselves in second place in both the NL Wild Card race and in the NL Central, where they sit 6.5 games back of the Brewers.

 

Here's hoping that they can put a dent in that gap this weekend!

Holy cow! The Cubs swept Wednesday's doubleheader against the Mets, winning 10-3 and 10-5 behind a great day from Dansby Swanson (5-for-9, two homers, 11 RBI) and the bullpen (7.2 innings of one-run ball).

 

Swanson hit a grand slam in the 8th inning of the opener to put the game out of reach and went 3-for-5 in the nightcap. He now leads the North Siders in RBI for the season.

 

The series wraps up in New York on Thursday before the Cubs head to Milwaukee for a three-game weekend set against the NL Central leading Brewers.

The Cubs were rained out in Chicago on Sunday and in New York on Monday, so they now face a stretch of eleven games in three cities over the next ten days. Not ideal, especially considering the state of the starting rotation. Edward Cabrera will take the mound for the North Siders on Tuesday, but the Cubs have not announced their starters for any subsequent games.

 

Sunday's rainout against the Jays has been rescheduled as a day game on August 6, which was previously an off day for both teams.

 

The series against the Mets kicks off Tuesday night, followed by a day/night doubleheader on Wednesday that includes the makeup game for Monday's rainout. Thursday's series finale – on a getaway day – is a night game. (When I'm commissioner, all getaway day games will be day games, but I digress...).

 

The road trip wraps up this weekend in Milwaukee before the Men in Blue return to the Friendly Confines for a six-game homestand against the Padres and Cardinals.

Holy cow! The Cubs crushed the Blue Jays 16-2 on Friday behind a quality start from from Five-Fingered Brown (6 IP, 2 ER, 4 K), six RBI including a grand slam from Carson Kelly, a 3-for-3 day from Pete Crow-Armstrong, and three RBI from the newest Cub, Justin Dean!

The North Siders posted a seven spot in the first and never looked back, as Ben Brown looked sharp and the bullpen tossed three innings of scoreless, three strikeout, one-hit ball.

 

The Cubs' offensive outburst included three hits apiece from PCA, Seiya Suzuki, and Nico Hoerner. PCA reached base in all five of his plate appearances, raising his season OPS to .869. He is hitting .433 (1.390 OPS) in June.

 

It was mostly small ball for the Men in Blue, as just four of their 18 hits went for extra bases (two doubles, a triple, and a homer).

 

The series continues Saturday at the Friendly Confines.

The Cubs beat the Rockies 8-6 on Wednesday at Wrigley behind a nice start from Javier Assad (5.2 IP, 2 ER) and a seven-run second inning outburst that proved to be just enough to secure the victory. 

 

Assad has put up a 0.72 ERA in May and June, and a 1.00 ERA in his three starts since being added to the starting rotation in June.

 

Seiya Suzuki, Ian Happ, Matt Shaw, and Carson Kelly each had two hits on the night while both Pete Crow-Armstrong and Dansby Swanson homered.

 

The win gave the North Siders their second series win in a row. The homestand wraps up this weekend with a three-game set against Toronto.

Hey hey! The Cubs beat the Giants 5-1 on Friday behind a quality start from Javier Assad (6 IP, 0 ER, 5 K), two hits from Seiya Suzuki, and a three-run homer from Michael Busch!

 

Assad allowed only three hits while walking one and has looked sharp since returning from a brief stint in Iowa. On the offensive side, the Men in Blue have gone 5-for-11 with runners in scoring position in their last two games, a nice departure from a 1-for-18 mark in their previous three games.

 

Our very own CMN regular RyneMaiden was in attendance – she got to see Buschy's homer leave the park on its way to McCovey Cove – a "splash hit".  Nice work cheering on the North Siders, RM!

The series continues Saturday in San Francisco.

Hey hey! The Cubs rocked the Rox 9-3 in Denver on Thursday behind a nice start from Edward Cabrera (5.1 IP, 2 ER, 5 K), two hits apiece from Pete Crow-Armstrong and Michael Busch, a home run from Alex Bregman, and a grand slam from Seiya Suzuki!

Suzuki's slam put the Men in Blue ahead for good in the 4th, and the team went 4-for-7 with runners in scoring position.
