Holy mackerel! The Cubs beat the Cardinals 6-1 on Saturday behind a dominant start from Ben Brown (7 IP, 1 ER, 6 K), a 4-for-5 night from Pete Crow-Armstrong (HR, 2 RBI), and two hits apiece from Nico Hoerner and Ian Happ!

Five Fingered-Brown's performance dropped his ERA to 2.01, and he sports an impressive 47:14 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 44.2 innings pitched. Jacob Webb and Daniel Palencia each tossed a scoreless relief inning to secure the victory, the North Siders' third in the last four games.

PCA had himself a night, going a triple shy of the cycle and ending the game with a spectacular sliding catch in left-center field (actually left-left-center, as that ball started out much closer to Happ than PCA!). Seiya Suzuki contributed a web gem of his own on the previous play, unleashing a perfect throw to third from right to throw out the runner trying to advance.

The rubber game of the series will be played Sunday at Busch before the Men in Blue head back to the Friendly Confines to kick off a six-game homestand on Tuesday. They'll host the two Bay Area teams before heading out west themselves.

Mercifully, the Cubs have a day off Thursday, as they have dropped four consecutive series, going 3-9 over that stretch. Despite reeling off two ten-game winning streaks earlier this season, they now sit in second place in the Central, 1.5 games back of Milwaukee.

Houston visit the Friendly Confines this weekend for a three-game series that wraps up this Cubs homestand. The Astros sport a 20-31 record and the third-lowest winning percentage in MLB ... hopefully the Men in Blue can take advantage and get back on track before they kick off a seven-game road trip against the Bucs and Cards starting Monday.
