HOLY COW! The Cubs won their seventh straight game on Friday, beating the Cardinals 3-2 in St. Louis. Mike Tauchman saved the game with a home run-robbing catch over the center field wall to end the game after Hoerner and Swanson turned a stellar double play to get Alzolay out of a ninth inning jam.
Hayden Wesneski served as an opener for Drew Smyly, who struck out six in 4.1 innings. Merryweather set the stage for Alzolay's 12th save. The four Cubs pitchers combined to rack up 12 strikeouts.
The North Siders squandered scoring chances in the 8th and 9th, but their 9th inning defense sealed the victory.
The Cubs are now 10-4 since the All-Star break and have won 26 of their last 41.
The series continues Saturday at Busch.
