Holy cow! The Cubs beat the Cards 10-2 on Tuesday behind a quality start from Colin Rea (6 IP, 1 ER) and three hits apiece from Seiya Suzuki, Alex Bregman, and Pedro Ramirez!
The Men in Blue knocked out 17 hits and led 7-0 after just two innings. Bregman's July has been his best offensive month as a Cub, and Pedro Ramirez is establishing himself as a solid piece of the Cubs' offensive onslaught with a .322 batting average and an .833 OPS. The North Siders have scored more runs this season than all but two other MLB teams.
After surprisingly designating Jameson Taillon for assignment, the Cubs really must acquire a starting pitcher before the trade deadline. It will be interesting to see if Ramirez, Dean, Alcantara, and/or Shaw wind up watching the Cubs from afar to close out the season.
The series continues Wednesday at Busch Stadium.
