Hey hey! The Cubs beat the Angels 3-2 on Friday behind a quality start from Javier Assad (6 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 4 K) in his first start back from the IL and home runs from Kyle Tucker & Pete Crow-Armstrong!

The homer from Tucker was his first since July 19 and PCA's was his first since July 23. The North Siders have a 14-13 record since July 23 -- hopefully these two sluggers can get back on track for the rest of the race.

Brad Keller (2.37 ERA) continued his recent dominance, retiring all three batters he faced in the 8th, and Daniel Palencia (1.93 ERA) picked up his 19th save of the campaign by striking out two and not allowing any baserunners in the 9th. Keller last gave up an earned run on July 12 and has 14 scoreless appearances (15 IP) since then.

The series continues on Saturday in Anaheim. 129 games down, 33 to go.

Holy cow! The Cubs swept Tuesday's doubleheader against the Brewers with 6-4 and 4-1 victories.

Owen Caissie had a great day, going 3-for-6 in the twinbill with 4 RBI and his first big league homer.

The bullpen threw a combined 6.2 innings of scoreless ball on the day, and Jameson Taillon's return from the IL was quality:  6 IP, 1 ER, and 4 K.

Michael Busch and Nico Hoerner each tallied two-out RBIs in the nightcap and Willi Castro added a home run in the day's opener.

The sweep put the Cubs seven games back of the previously red-hot Brewers and kept them in the driver's seat of the wild card race.

The series continues Wednesday night at the Friendly Confines.

126 games down, 36 to go.

Cade Horton was solid on the mound going 5 scoreless innings while striking out three and giving up 2 hits.  The Cubs strung together a pair of hits with Carson Kelly hitting a single then PCA doubling on a ball that nearly got out of Wrigley on a day when the wind was blowing in.  Kelly was later driven in on an Ian Happ sacrifice fly and that is all the Cubs pitchers would need as the bullpen closed the door after tossing four shutout innings giving up one hit and striking out 5 for the W.

The Cubs will all wear #23 jerseys tomorrow to honor Cubs legend and Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg!
